Test principle
In an alkaline environment, free Mg reacts with Calmagite, forming purplish-red complex which shows absorption at the wavelength of 530 nm. The intensity of the color is proportional to the concentration of Mg.
EGTA and TEA are used to eliminate interferences caused by calcium (Ca) and heavy metal, respectively. Protein molecules are stabilized by surfactants, and thus the measurement of Mg can be free from the interference of proteins.
